Good Yankee is content with a purpose: turning awareness into action to protect the land, history, homes, and communities that make rural America worth preserving. Our Save Rural America campaign is just the start. Beginning in South Carolina, our mission is to raise awareness about rapid development and the loss of rural land while building the resources necessary to make a tangible difference in the communities experiencing it.
Donations help support educational and advocacy content about rural development, land preservation, housing, local history, and the challenges facing working- and middle-class rural Americans. As the campaign grows, funding will also support the purchase and preservation of rural land in South Carolina that is at high risk for development, historic preservation efforts, and community assistance for longtime homeowners at risk of losing their property because they can no longer afford rising property taxes.
Our long-term goal is bigger than one county or one state. Good Yankee aims to grow into a rural preservation foundation capable of protecting threatened land, preserving local history, helping families remain in the communities they helped build, and connecting rural towns across state lines so they can share resources, ideas, and successful strategies for managing growth without sacrificing their identity.
Rural America does not have to become the next subdivision. Through grassroots support, education, preservation, and direct community action, we can help ensure that the farms, forests, historic places, small towns, and family properties we inherited are still here for the generations that come after us.
